We "Deaniacs" in New York have united behind the
Kerry-Edwards ticket. We will conduct a voter
registration drive and work here and in adjacent
"contested" states (e.g., NH, OH and PA) on behalf of the national ticket.

We are also working on behalf of progressive Democratic candidates for Congress and local offices. The only statewide race this year is for
the U.S. Senate, where incumbent Democrat Charles
Schumer is a shoo-in for re-election. However,
three or four Republican congressmen, one of whom
is fairly liberal, decided to retire and we hope
to pick up one or more seats for the Democrats,
doing our part to help rebuild a Democratic
majority in the House of Representatives.

Many of us are also providing financial support for Democratic candidates for Congress and the
U.S. Senate who are engaged in tight races.

This promises to be a watershed political year.
It is likely that the Democrats will pick up a
Senate seat in Illinois, but we will have to work
hard to retain Minority Leader Daschle's seat
and several currently Democratic seats in the Southeast where the incumbents are not running
again (e.g., Florida, Georgia, Louisiana. and
North Carolina).
