I heart Raspberries!
Especially when the Raspberries are in a Vodka-based cocktail!
I double heart Vodka-based cocktails!
Especially when you consume said cocktails with a totally-dear-to-my-heart buddy I have not seen in way too long!
I heart my Denver/Boulder blogger friends! (and non-blogger friends as well!)
Especially when you get to hang out at really fun cool places with great food, sexalicious ambience, and did I mention the awesome drinks??
Thanks for hanging Friday night Rosie my dear! Had an awesome time at Vita! Sorry you couldn't join us HDW, Heather and Shmeder. And Jeff and Penguin too. There will definitely be a next time!
Especially since we all need our vitamins!
(ps- sorry I could not link to anyone or to Vita. Am doing a Beta test for Typepad and the link feature is temporarily wonky...as is the spacing feature)
Wishing my wonderful buddy Little a FANTASTIC, stupendous happy-happy-happy Day O' Birth! Hope it's lush! (ha!)
Have fun celebrating....without me :-(
A client that does not know that my hard drive is dead (moment of silence) sent me a quote that said " I love my computer because my friends live in it".
Yeah, that says it all.
Another guest has come and gone. Add another Colorado convert to the list.
My buddy Abby left today to spend some time with a friend in Houston before eventually heading back to the hot and humid swampland that is Florida aka my last home.
Ever since I'd moved here all she had heard me say was how pretty it was and how scenic and how nice everyone is. And no shocker here but she agreed on the way to the airport today that YES, it is pretty and scenic and nice and overall a great place to visit. Not sure if I have made a convincing argument to get her to move here, but it's a start.
Tried to fit as much fun as possible into her trip.
From RVT's on the deck Friday night to an action packed Saturday...Cabrini Shrine, Red Rocks, having Rosie and Kev meet us at The Yardhouse in Golden, then off to share Mango & Strawberry Margs with Andrew at The Rio in Boulder, hit up Pearl Street Mall, then back to Andrew's house to hang with him and his buddies Jeremy and Charlie while we watched the Rockies take the Phillies (Abby crashed on the carpet, a victim of Margs and Altitude). We even saw 5 good-sized bucks in Andrew's parking lot as we were leaving, which totally jazzed Abby to no end. She talked about it the whole way home.
After much sleeping in on Sunday, Denver Tour day two commenced with Brunch at Steubens (second home of the ROUS as well as best hashbrowns ever!) to tours of Wash Park, Uptown, Capitol Hill then over to Lo-Do. She loved the Tattered Cover as well as the FREE Mall Shuttle which we took to Pavillions (home of the Monkeys), Virgin Records, then wound up at ESPN Zone for the end of the Bronco's game and beginning of the Av's...which coincided nicely with a downpour outside.
Once the skies cleared, back outside for more Lo-Do walking, then tours of Highlands, Arvada (More wildlife sightings...this time Abby saw a fox!) and back home for more hockey on TV.
Monday was an abbreviated fun day since I had to work but we bolted as soon as I unplugged my (work) computer and headed out to Wash Park where Abby got to see geese for the very first time. She was like a kid in a candy store (or like me in an Apple store) and took tons of geese pix. Did a lake walk (around it, not on it) and marveled that we were even allowed in the park without having a dog or kid (or both!) to call our own. Seriously, what is up with all the strollers?
Dinner was Cherry Cricket (way yum) then more walking around Cherry Creek, followed by driving around Cherry Creek, followed by coming home to watch 'Munich' on DVD which didn't get too far seeing as the DVD was all goofed up and kept stopping.
And today she left. Sigh. Another friend gone. House empty. Very quiet in Kathyland tonite.
Now that I've run out of words, here's some pix :
My buddy Abby hits town Friday night and will be here until Tuesday.
We'll be hitting Denver Friday night after 10p, then Saturday is the isoceles triangle of Golden/Red Rocks - Denver - Boulder. Probably a road trip to somewhere scenic on Sunday.
Hit me up if you want to hang out with us...nothing is set in stone as of now.
Here's a pix of Abby...with our buddy Chris...from back in the Florida days.
My Sunday morning started out with an im from my bestest buddy and friend telling me that she and her son were in a hit-and-run accident.
My heart dropped.
She was able to im me and was at home, fantastic news on both counts. As she im'd me the details, I couldn't believe what had happened and just how freakin' fortunate she was to escape with no outward physical damage..altho I am sure she will really feel the effects today...just a guess.
Wound up going over to pay her a visit and we hung out for the rest of the day and well into the night. Raspberry Vodka tonics can go along way towards celebrating good luck, good timing and aliveness. And friendship as well.
Being bloggers and all, she blogged about it, complete with pix. HDW's husband, HDH, commented on her accident. This part in particular really stood out to me, so I'd like to share it with all of you:
"HDH - So - what is the fucking point of all this ranting as I am want to do (ask my wife)???
It is the following. When you get behind the wheel - show some fucking respect. Pay the fuck attention. Get off the fucking phone or get a blue tooth headset if you are in a job you have to be on the phone. Pick a CD or fucking station and leave it alone. Don't fucking drink and drive. Don't do your fucking makeup. Don't fucking drive long distance trips without sleep trying to save a buck.
I have seen dead, mutilated, paralyzed, brain injured, organ donor - men, women, children - wives husbands GFs, BFs etc. All who either did not respect the road or were the victim of someone who did not."
Very well said.
Still trying very hard not to think about the 'what-if's'.
My buddy Chris arrives today for what promises to be a fun, on-the-go weekend. So blogging will probably be sparse while I show him all the wonders of Denver...and Denver bars. And Boulder...and Boulder bars. Estes Park...Golden...Red Rocks...get my drift?
Here's how I met Chris. Good times.
Happy weekending!
..on the cake that is life. Or something like that.
I'm getting ahead of myself,tho.
It was awesome to have some time off over the last several weeks to reconnect with my local buddies during the day. Be it extra im's or calls or emails or lunches, I got to do it and it was fun. Felt like summer vacation only with stitches and sleeping a lot the first week and not being able to lift over 10 pounds.
This past weekend was the culmination of 'fun stuff with friends' time.
Jeff C. had his once-in-a-lifetime-demo party where I also got to see and spend time with HDW as well as Heather as well as hang out with Rodents. Bloggers and Rodents and Booze. And writing on walls. And cake on the walls. Is there any better way to eat cake?
Sunday called for hanging out with the Boulder contingent...Richard & Sara and Andrew. We all got together at Illegal Pete's to catch up..and to admire Andrew's new iPhone!
All in all, it was a great way to wrap up being off for two weeks. And it gave me an idea that when I build up more vacation time, the next long vacation I'm taking will be right here in Denver.
Andrew came up with a cool idea. To gather a group of creative tech-types and see if they could create a start-up in a weekend.
Startup Weekend started tonite and will go until Sunday night. Personally? I'm always betting for anything Andrew has a hand in developing cause I know it'll succeed. But that's just me and I am totally biased.
Check them out over the weekend.
Passionate creativity and fun all rolled into one weekend in Boulder. Nice!
