Tag, You're IT

I’ve been tagged by Kathy F

Here goes...

What were three of the stupidest things you have done in your life?

1. Not maxing out each 401(k) I was enrolled in
2. Not being disciplined with my finances
3. Not eating strawberries until I was 25 cause they had seeds in them

At the current moment, who has the most influence in your life?

My realtor

If you were given a time machine that functioned, and you were allowed to only pick up to five people to dine with, who would you pick?

1. My mom when she was a teenager
2. Ditto for my dad
3. Golda Meir
4. Leonardo Da Vinci
5. A translator for Leonardo

If you had three wishes that were not supernatural, what would they be?

1. Immediately eliminate all tobacco products and tobacco cravings
2. Ditto for all illegal drugs
3. Worldwide tolerance for differing viewpoints (unless they're on tobacco and illegal drugs)

Someone is visiting your hometown/place where you live at the moment. Name two things you regret your city not having, and two things people should avoid:

Regret not having:
1. In-N-Out
2. Round Table Pizza

1. All the ancient drivers that can barely see over the steering wheel
2. Visiting from June-November

Name one event that has changed your life.

I was born paralyzed due to a broken neck. No one expected me to survive so 5 different people baptized me and a priest gave me the last rites. The first 6 weeks of my life I was in a body cast. Then I got better. I still have the body’s sitting in my closet. Reminds me that I am here for a reason...don’t exactly know WHAT that reason is, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out someday.

Thou Shalt Not...

...display the Ten Commandments.

I'm down with that.

Yeah, I'm a Jew. Used to be a Catholic. Believe in the Ten Commandments. Try and practice them as well.

And I am totally cool with them not being displayed in public. Or in Government buildings. You wanna see them, fine.  Go to a Church. Or a  synogogue/temple/shul...whatever you choose to call it. Post them in your house. In your car. Blog about them. But don't put them in a public place.

Look, I believe in them. But never would I try and force my religious beliefs on anyone else. I don't appreciate it being done to me.

The time and energy spent on this subject is wasteful. I would much prefer the Supreme Court busy itself with matters that mean something to the rest of the US.  Last week it was flag burning. Today, the Ten Commandments. Would hate to think those are the most pressing cases on their schedule.

Of course, you could alway do something productive and start impeachment proceedings against GWB. It's a suggestion, ok??..for what it's worth.

And just because I believe he needs to be impeached doesn't mean you have to agree with me. Of course, there is that one little commandment that says 'Thou Shalt Not Lie'. As in 'thou shalt not lie about WMD'.

Maybe it's more important to post the TC's in government buildings than to expect the self-professed Christian leader of the free world to actually practice what they preach. Especially when the lying leads to killing. Y'know...that commandment about 'Thou Shalt Not Kill'?

What about 'Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor's Husband/Wife'? Or child. Why send Barbara and Jenna off to fight your made-up war when you can covet the tens of thousands of children citizens available to go to war?

Does any one else find it sadly hilarious that to this day no one can remember serving with GWB yet our 'President' thinks nothing of sending other people's children to be in harm's way. To be injured. Killed. Over a lie.

Yeah, don't bother posting the Ten Commandments in public. No one follows them anyway. Especially the Bush Administration.

Company-No Swiffering Required!

Was in the midst of packing up all my Foster Puppy paraphenalia (towels, toys, sheepskin beds, etc), feeling sorta sad about not fostering anymore.

All of a sudden, I look outside and see that I have company!

The kids were so cute and the Mommy was so protective.  After a couple minutes, they all swam off in a long line with Mom leading the way.

Sorry the picture quality isn't the best....until I get my Nikon D70 (keep dreaming) my cell-cam will have to do for now :-)

Top Ten...

Pretend you're leaving your current domicile and moving into temporary housing. Almost everything you own will be going into storage for possibly up to a year. You can only take 10 special items with you (clothing and toiletries excluded).

What do you take?

My Top Ten -

  • i-Book
  • i-Pod
  • JBL Creature Speakers
  • Crate and Barrel Wrinkles Lamp
  • 900 thread count sheets & comforter
  • bed
  • nightstand
  • dresser
  • menorah
  • picture of the cutest weiner dog in the whole wide world

Fear Is The Mindkiller

One of my favorite literary quotes of all time.  It's a mantra I use whenever I'm fearful, anxious, unsure, etc.

Sometimes not even the mightiest mantra can prevent your mind from taking over and pushing you into 'red alert' mode.  Like last night.

Had a daily check in call with my realtor yesterday and a random comment she made sent my tummy spiraling into 'shredded tummy' mode which turned into a massive GERD attack last night. I hate it when that happens. Sparing you the details, was up from 2a-7a this am, then fell asleep for over an hour before dragging myself into work. Dragging was the operative word of the day.

I'm all better now...back to normal.

My realtor assured me today that she is sure everything will turn out fine; it's just that she is a perfectionist and doesn't want to assume that everything will turn out alright until the appraisal is in. Considering the hot housing market we're having (and the fact that a unit like mine hasn't been on the market in ages) she is getting comps from other areas. She assured me that there is no need to worry unless we have a reason to worry, which I know is  a wise viewpoint.

As with life, selling my house has been a learning experience.

Patience is not my forte but I am learning to be patient. Procrastination is one of my faults... I have learned how procrastinating (and not listening to my gut feeling) can impact me in a financially negative way. And not doing  things the right way the first time? That's just a no-brainer.

So I'm learning my lessons and trying to stay positive, peaceful and in the moment. Each time I walk across the catwalk upstairs, I appreciate the view down below. I love the colors in my house. The way sunset thru the back windows looks different every day. I'm hypersensitive to my surroundings, filing each sensation/thought/memory to  a safe place in my brain. While I want the next step to be here NOW, I do appreciate the time that remains.

No major plans for this weekend other than (you guessed it) sleep late each day. Gotta get back into hitting the gym. Start shredding outdated financial info and other assorted paperwork. Relax and stop stressing.

Have a great weekend...I'm off to snoozeland.

WHY do I keep doing this?

Forgetting to check my pockets...ALL my pockets...before doing laundry? Scraped melted gum out of the dryer again...4th time in two months.

AND...I keep forgetting to put gas in my truck. Left work thinking I would cross the street and get gas. One of my buddies called and by the time he hung up, I was home and had totally spaced about getting gas.

So I headed out in the depressing rain several minutes ago...make that warm and humid depressing rain...hoping I wouldn't run out of gas before I got to the gas station.

I have gotta start writing stuff down.

Over and out.

To-Do List

Rapidly whittling my list of to-do's.

Gave notice at Drinking Liberally. Gave notice at the Humane Society. Arranged for a handy man to stop by tomorrow to fix what needs fixing from the inspection report.

Purged my entire closet. 10 political t-shirts...gone. 5 pair really comfy but very ratty old jeans...buh-bye. Sweater-sets when I used to dress up for work...history. Summer dresses, long jumpers, Adidas sweats I wore once cause they were lined in what feels like WOOL (yeah, in FL that makes sense) the Goodwill bag.

Only items I allowed myself to save are a Howard Dean t-shirt and a t-shirt from Team Stork. The rest is already in the truck, destined for the local Goodwill.

This feels good. Change is good. Change that cleans out your closet is even better.

Ok, bloggy-break-time over.

Back to the purging of the closets. Next up, receipts and assorted papers. Fire up the shredder!

Bye Buddy...

The best ever roommate in the whole wide world moved out tonite.

Jake and his dad Jeff loaded up the beds, his entertainment center, his books, cds, games, pictures, wine fridge and everything else in Jake's truck and a truck Jeff had borrowed and then they were off.

Wow. This feels weird.

It was almost a year ago that Quinn, then Jake, and finally Kevin moved in. All three were from the Stork Campaign. When the elections were over, Kevin returned to VT and Quinn went back to propose to Nami in NY.

Jake stayed behind, wound up getting a job where I worked and became my full-time roomie.

And what a roomie he was.

Kind, generous, respectful of my uber-anal-clean-freak ways, and a really good friend as well. Jake had my back from day one and was always on my side. He looked out for me, made drinks for me, listened to me vent about everything and anything, helped me with the foster puppies and forever will be the BEST lizard catcher in the state of FL.

Best of luck, happiness and love in your new place, Jake.

And if you ever need to get a roommate, hope you get one just like you!

My Day

Woke up way before my alarm when off. Had a premonition my truck had a flat tire again. And so it was.

Made it to Sears before 8 and was at work by 9:45 with a brand new tire. Nothing like dropping 200 clams before 10 am to get your day off to a great start.

Hectic Monday mornng, what else is new?

Lunch out with my current associate and his new replacement. Macaroni Grill...fantastic food and was ready for a nap when I got back to my desk. Since napping at work is frowned on, stayed focus and returned call after call after call.  Best part of the day was the pic Tom sent with his phone. He's the only guy I know that looks younger every year...scary.

Took a picture of myself to send to Tom and noticed my face was bright red...redder than the sunburn I got over the weekend. Didn't think anything of it until I started having difficulty swallowing and some difficulty breathing. Then it got worse and I got dizzy...not a good feeling.

Was then I remembered the artichoke dip we ordered with lunch also had shrimp in it...I had totally spaced on that ingredient...where was my brain?  I'm allergic to shellfish. Had a pretty bad reaction after my CT arteriogram several months back (the ateriogram contrast has high levels of iodine) Luckily one of my neighbors is an RN that happened to have an Epi Pen...all is back to normal now. And think of the $ I saved by not going to the ER!

Promised Sam I would change the background color on my blog...I was getting sick of the grey and he was honest enough to tell me he was not liken' it either.  Had promised myself I would start bagging up stuff to purge before I have to pack.  Am thinking that can wait cause I am gonna hit it as soon as I finish...just way too tired tonite.

Some good news...Inspection on the house was realtor said it was over quicker than she thought it would be. Get the report tomorrow. Appraisal should be in a week from today (crossing fingers and thinking positive) then it's mostly downhill waiting for the 15th to arrive.

Damn boring post for the second night in a row...maybe tomorrow I'll be 3 for 3?

Later gator.

My Birthdate

From Sean's Blog

Your Birthdate: December 13

Being born on the 13th day of the month should help make you a better manager and organizer, but it may also give you a tendency to dominate people a bit.

You may be more responsible and self-disciplined than you realize.

Sincere and honest, you are a serious, hard working individual.

Your feeling are likely to seem somewhat repressed at times.

You are apt to be much more practical, rational, and conscious of details.

Your intolerance and insistence on complete accuracy can be irritating to some.

Does this mean I'm a sincere and honest pain in the ass?

(Hmmm- wonder if I should turn the comments off on this one?)

Just woke up from a snooze on the couch. Was watching HGTV when I fell asleep and woke up dreaming of a device that makes quesadillas, waffles and smoothies all at once. Have never had a waffle so I would probably not use it for that purpose, but a quesadilla sounds pretty damn good right now.

Never got around to eating dinner tonite...wound up doing laundry, watching tv, snoozing and went to Publix for more Swiffers and came back with everything but Swiffers. Make a list, Kathy!!

Forgot my cell in my car...sorry 4 buddies that called me tonite...will get back to ya on Monday cause I know none of you are awake now.

Busy weekend...

Out with Abby and visiting Blogger Buddy Bryan Friday night, over to the West Coast of FL on Saturday to Sanibel Island to visit the John 'Ding' Darling NWR, sweated nonstop and almost passed out on my wimpy attempt to walk the 4 mile nature trail...I made it to .5 mile mark then back to the Visitor's Center (Bryan did the whole 4 miles)...afterwards, party on Ft. Lauderdale Beach w/ Abby and her Chem Eng buddies.  Jello shots are first time :-)

After breakfast with Bryan this morning (he headed back up north to see more touristy sites) I did errands, more errands, and then home to get ready for another week.

OK, have I bored you to death? Close?

Home inspection is tomorrow so I need to finish putting the house back together, fold my last load of laundry then call it a nite.

So nnsd for now...I'm outta here.

Letter To Tom & Bill

(Background to this client Tom and my client Bill are both going fishing. Bill is in MN as I type. Tom leaves for Canada next week. Tom suggested a friendly competition. Here is a copy of the letter I sent to each of them)

Hey Guys -
Ok, here's the deal.
Tom suggested this idea and I think it's a great one. Bill, I'm sure you'd agree. However, since you are on a lake somewhere in frantic pursuit of your first EVER Muskie (moment of silence) you won't see this until you finish your vacay. Luckily, I called and left you a message on your cell.
Tom is leaving on vacay next week to also catch his first EVER Muskie (another moment of silence).
OK, boys, who's gonna be the winner-take-all of the epic challenge??
Let's see which one of you can :
* Catch their first Muskie (or however the heck you spell it)
* Catch the most Muskie's
* Catch the most fish over all
* Catch the largest fish
* Who makes the best hush puppies ( I get to be the judge of this one!!)
I'll need pictures as proof, so be forewarned. And yeah, freeze-dried hush puppies delivered to me would be sweet :-)
What will the Winner get?
Bragging rights...a picture of the winner and their prize-winning fish proudly displayed at my everlasting gratitude at getting killer hush puppies...and a $25 gift certificate to one of the following - Starbucks, Panera, Best Buy, or Orvis (this is SO a trick question!!)
OK boys....bring it on home.
Ready, set, fish!
Kath :-)
(who obviously has waaay too much time on her hands tonite)

Blogger Buddies

My blogger buddy Bryan is coming to visit.

So boys and girls, let's see if you've been paying attention. What is one of the FIRST things I do when company is on the way?

First one to answer correctly gets a special 'only-in-Kathyland' prize!

Operators are standing by.

Drive safe Bryan but don't take too long. We're having a spell of phenomenal weather.
