These have helped over the last several days.
* Calls from my Republican buddies seeing if I am ok...and one buddy that voted for Betty Castor...yeah, he still voted for GWB but the Castor vote was appreciated.
* Lots of blogger and cyber buddies encouraging me and making me laugh.
* My mom being totally disgusted with Diebold...and don't EVEN get her started on Cheney.
* My mom then saying why don't I move back to CA so I'm not so far away...awwww...thanks Mommy!
* Knowing that there IS nice, affordable housing available...so it's in Nova Scotia...and it snows...minor detail!
* My DFA buddy Tom calling to check on me twice a day for the last two days...and letting me borrow his jacket at Abbey Road Tuesday night because I had the worst case of chills and was about to pass out from sadness.
* One of my Repub buddies sending me pix of his family dogs to cheer me up...doggie pix always hit the spot.
* Giblet with her pix of the one and only Buddha Baby Boy
* Jon Stewart, Jon Stewart, Jon Stewart...need I say more??
* And finally...hope you're sitting down for this one...getting CARDED on the way home from Abbey Road when I stopped to buy beer...guess grief suits me? That one makes me laugh the most.
hey... actually responding to the previous post, but I figured you'd be more likely to notice a comment on the current one.
I'd combine elements of #1 and #2 - that's what I'm going to do, anyway. I'm going to take some time to "get my house in order" literally and metaphorically, concentrate on other stuff and avoid most political thinking and talking for a little while. I'll take quick peaks at blogs and short listens to Air America, perhaps, to make sure I'm not missing anything important, but that's about it.
THEN, after my emotional batteries are fully recharged, I'm going to take more of an active role in politics, particularly on the local level. I'm going to order the "Don't Think of an Elephant" book/DVD package, probably from Buzzflash:
http://www.buzzflash.com/hartmann/04/11/har04007.html
and start working from the ground up, "reframing the debate" as they say. Use verbal and psychological jiu-jitsu against the conservatives.
It's true we'll never win over the people who are dead set on being homophobic and anti-choice, but screw them - they are a shrinking minority in this country. (At least I hope so.) Nor will we win over all the country club Republicans - but we should win over at least a few, the ones who care about fiscal responsibility over big tax cuts, anyway.
Maybe I'm naive, but since we already have somewhere between 40 and 50% of the people on our side anyway, hard work and creativity ought to win over some of the others, once they realize that they're clinging to Bush like a battered spouse who's afraid to leave.

Sounds like a good plan to me. And a plan is what I'm working on. Started getting my second wind back yesterday. Today at work 3 people approached me about getting active politically. My boss wants to secede (her hubby was a high-up in K/E MA)...she asked me if I want to join up? It makes me realize that you and I and lots of other people out there WILL NOT take this right-wing shit.
Gonna work on writing out a plan of sorts...more of a manuscript of ideas, actually, and eventually post on my blog and LSF. Great minds think alike...gonna see if my library has the 'Elephant' book tomorrow! Good call, B!
And yeah, I'm still gonna take it easy and be good to myself...what will I do with my weekends now? Sleeping in, getting NFL couch time on Sunday (GO EAGLES!), sprucing up the garage and back patio, working on my Organizing business.
Keep me posted on your CD and how soon I can have my *VERY* own copy :-)
By the way, this is SUCH a powerful metaphor.... 'once they realize that they're clinging to Bush like a battered spouse who's afraid to leave'.
